The Metreon's 'Walk of Game' have announced the inductees for 2006: Sid Meier, John Carmack, 'StarCraft', Lara Croft, 'Final Fantasy', and 'EverQuest'.
Sid Meier and John Carmack will both receive lifetime achievement awards. Meier is the brain behind the legendary 'Civilization' series. Carmack is one of the co-founders of id Software, the team behind FPS greats like 'Wolfenstein 3D', and the 'Doom' and 'Quake' series.
'StarCraft' is considered by many as one of the best RTS games ever created. Its space-based gameplay set the benchmark for other games to emulate.
1996 saw the release of 'Tomb Raider', which introduced the world to Lara Croft, one of the most well-known figures in the world of computer games. A series of successful followup titles were released and fans can look forward to the Xbox 360 release of 'Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend' sometime in 2006.
With more than 63 million games sold the 'Final Fantasy' almost does not need any introduction. Blending stunning visuals with continuously evolving gameplay has made 'Final Fantasy' one of the bestselling series ever.
EverQuest kick-started the 3D fantasy MMORPG genre. Since it's launch in March 1999, more than 3.5 million gamers have joined.
