The votes have been tallied and the Walk Of Game 2006 winners have been revealed. Sid Meier and John Carmack have been chosen to receive steel stars on the Walk of Game near the Metreon in San Francisco. Meier is perhaps best known for creating the legendary Civilization series and Carmack is the co-founder of id Software and creator of graphics engines for games such as Wolfenstein 3D , Doom , and Quake . Both men are responsible for some of the most successful franchises in gaming history.

In addition to the two lifetime achievement awards, games and game characters received honors as well. Starcraft, Blizzard's ever popular sci-fi RTS title, will receive a star along the Walk, as will the game character Lara Croft. Sid Meier (Partner and Director of Creative Development, Firaxis Games) began his legendary career in game making in the early 1980s, as a founding partner at one of the industry's first successful game companies: Microprose Software. Recognized around the world as the "Father of Computer Gaming", Sid and his games have been honored with virtually every major award in the gaming industry. In 1999, Sid was the second person ever to be inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Science's "Hall of Fame", and in 2002, he was honored with an induction into the Computer Museum of America's Hall of Fame. Sid put computer gaming on the map with such hallmark games as Civilization, Railroad Tycoon® and Pirates®, all of which are still revered as the greatest games ever made.

John Carmack (Founder/Owner/Lead Programmer) The technological patriarch and co-founder of id Software, John Carmack is responsible for some of the most compelling and successful PC game titles of all time. Largely self-taught, Carmack cranks out the most in-demand and technically mind-boggling 3D graphics engines in existence. These engines, which are licensed by leading game development companies, are found at the heart of all id Software titles – from the revolutionary Wolfenstein 3D and blockbuster Doom to the successful Quake and the newest smash hit Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
